What is Emotional Intelligence?


Emotional Intelligence is the capacity to be aware of, control, and express one's emotions, and to handle interpersonal relationships judiciously and empathetically.

According to the Ph Daniel Goleman in his 1996 book, of the same name.


Emotional Intelligence is the ability to recognize, understand and manage our own emotions. And understand and influence the emotions of others.

People with a higher level of Emotional Intelligence:

  • Have more stable relationships

  • Live longer

  • Have less chance of depression

  • Have less chance of anxiety

  • Are more adaptable and flexible

  • Have greater resilience

  • Have a simpler and calmer life

  • Have a great level of adaptability

  • Develop greater empathy


Empathy: Empathy is the ability to put yourself in someone else’s shoes and understand how they may feel or react.


There are four fundamental aspects of EI

  • Self-Awareness

  • Self-Management

  • Social Awareness

  • and Relationship Management.


This is how aware you are and how accurately you can assess your emotions, related to both, yourself and with others.


Self-Awareness: This is the core of Emotional Intelligence.

Self-awareness can be defined as conscious knowledge of one’s own character, feelings, motives and desires.

Also, the strengths, weaknesses, values and drivers and understanding their impact on others.



Self-Management: is defined as the ability to take responsibility for one's own behaviour and well being. This involves controlling or redirecting our unsettling emotions and Is a key skill for a person with a high level of EI.


Empathy: Empathy is the ability to put yourself in someone else’s shoes and understand how they may feel or react.


Social Skills/Relationship Management: The human or the interpersonal skills are the skills that present the person’s ability to interact, work or relate effectively with people. Those who do well in the social skills element of emotional intelligence are great communicators. They are as open to delivering or hearing both bad and good news. And they react more positively in every circumstance.

IN CONCLUSION:


People with a high level of Emotional Intelligence seem to have unlimited amounts of success in both personal and professional life.
